Creative Path
“Paving the Way to a Brighter Future”
Creative Path Town Hall Meeting
Creative Path hosted a Town Hall Meeting on September 13, 2008.
Various people from the community interested in the implementation of Creative Path attended this event. Using an informal approach, we invited those in attendance to provide feedback regarding what is needed in the community and how we as a team can provide our youth with the necessary tools to be successful in the 21st century.
We discussed the following:
The focus of this new charter school to include placing students at the center, building excellence, fostering cultural experience, experiential
learning and community connection.
Why we need such a learning institution such as Creative Path.
The need of an authorizer which can consists of Universities, Community Colleges, Local School District, and the Intermediate School District.
We are continuing to seek the community support in the process of the developmental phase.
We discussed Creative Path’s progress and the prospect of a perspective building, but must again have an authorizer before we can move forward in the final phase of implementing Creative
Path.
Creative Path will continue to host Informational and Town Hall meetings in the future to continue to bring as many perspective stakeholders into this new venture.
Creative Path would like to continue to hear from the community in hopes they can provide us with other resources as we continue to develop and implement Creative Path.
Creative Path Discussion Topic
“We can generalize forever about how ‘they’ see us, treat us, and feel about us. Such grumbling may satisfy some conditioned reaction in us to be victims and therefore not responsible, but it does nothing to change our circumstances
or improve our children lives. The hard truth, as it relates to race and class, is that most people, black and white, who live outside of poor communities don’t care about how poor people live as long they don’t impinge on our lives. If
we continue to wait for ‘them’ to fix ‘us’, it will never happen. We won’t achieve equality until we respect ourselves, and we won’t respect ourselves until we take responsibility for our lives.”
Carl Upchurch, Convicted in the Womb
VISION
Creative Path will collaboratively work with Michigan Courts, staff, probation judges and officers, Community, families, Department of Human Services and other Juvenile Justice agencies that will involve team -building and forming positive relationships to sanction youth from continuing the lifestyle of crime. Creative Path will produce youth who are self-reliant, persistent, goal-oriented, and motivated to successfully complete High School well prepared for the 21st century and transition positively into higher education and/or the professional workplace.
